Supporting teachers and students in challenging times

We are proud to have been featured on BBC Breakfast last week in a segment exploring the proposed pay increase for teachers. The programme spotlighted the growing pressures facing educators across the country and highlighted some of the ways Dixons is working to support both our staff and the students who need us most.
One of our dedicated teachers from Dixons Croxteth Academy spoke passionately about the increasing challenges schools are facing, particularly around supporting vulnerable students and families. As the cost of living crisis continues to bite, schools have become a vital safety net for many communities, often stepping in to provide more than just education.
Also featured in the segment was Rachael Fidler, school and college trust leader, who discussed the sector-wide recruitment and retention crisis. With schools across the UK struggling to fill posts, we know that urgent action is needed. At Dixons, we’ve responded by embracing flexible working for all teachers through offering a nine-day fortnight, a pioneering move that is helping us to attract and retain the best talent. We believe flexible working should be the norm, not the exception, and we’re proud to be creating change in this area.
“It’s about creating the conditions where great people want to stay in teaching,” said Rachael during the interview. “Flexibility is a key part of that.”
The full segment is available to view on BBC iPlayer (starting at 1:18:13).
