Students power to victory in virtual rowing finals
Posted 8th May 2026
The third and final stage of our virtual indoor rowing competition has now taken place, bringing together hundreds of students from across the trust in one of our most inclusive and engaging sporting events.
Delivered in partnership with All Aboard Youth Rowing and British Rowing and part of our Dixons Cup, the competition continues to grow each year, supported by significant investment in equipment, staff training and digital racing technology across all academies. This has enabled students to compete virtually against peers across the North of England, taking part in a fast-paced and increasingly popular sport.
A total of 64 teams entered this year’s competition, with students working in four-person relay teams to achieve maximum distance in an eight-minute race. The event provided valuable opportunities for participation, teamwork and resilience, particularly for students who may not typically engage in traditional team sports.
Congratulations go to Dixons Newall Green Academy, who were crowned overall champions following a series of outstanding performances across multiple year groups. Several other academies also achieved strong results across both boys’ and girls’ categories, demonstrating the depth of talent across the trust.
The competition once again highlighted the power of inclusive sport in engaging students of all abilities and fostering a sense of achievement, teamwork and healthy competition.
