More than 1,200 students compete at Dixons Athletics Championships 2026

Posted 3rd July 2026

More than 1,200 students from across Dixons Academies Trust came together on Thursday 2 July for our annual Dixons Athletics Championships 2026 at the Manchester Regional Athletics Arena.

Set against the backdrop of the Etihad Stadium, students from academies across the Trust competed in a full programme of track and field events, demonstrating determination, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Andrew Sutcliffe, Director of Sport, said: "Our Athletics Championships provided a fantastic opportunity for more than 1,200 students to compete, support one another and showcase the very best of what our trust stands for. Throughout the day, students demonstrated not only athletic talent, but also the resilience, teamwork, character and sense of belonging that define our schools and wider community."

The championships provided students with the opportunity to compete in a professional athletics environment while showcasing the teamwork, character and sense of belonging that define our Trust community. Competitors supported one another, celebrated success and represented their academies with pride.

Congratulations to all students who took part, as well as the staff, volunteers and sixth form leaders whose hard work ensured the event ran smoothly.

Congratulations to Dixons Music Primary, who were crowned overall primary athletics champions, and Dixons Middleton Academy, who secured the overall secondary athletics title following a highly competitive day of action.

The event was the largest athletics championships to date and once again highlighted the power of sport to bring young people together, create lasting memories and inspire students to achieve their very best.
