Dr Ruby Bhatti appointed High Sheriff of West Yorkshire
Posted 28th April 2026
One of our trustees, Dr Ruby Bhatti OBE DL, has been formally declared High Sheriff of West Yorkshire for 2026–2027.
In a historic first, Dr Bhatti becomes the first South Asian solicitor to hold this prestigious role in the county, representing a significant step forward for diversity and leadership.
Her appointment also marks a notable moment for West Yorkshire, as both of the county’s most senior ceremonial roles are now held by women of South Asian heritage, reflecting the diversity of the communities they serve.
With more than 30 years of legal experience and a longstanding commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, Dr Bhatti has made a substantial impact through her work. During her year in office, she will champion the judiciary, emergency services, voluntary organisations and youth initiatives across the region.
We’re honoured to have Ruby as part of our trust and look forward to seeing the positive difference she will continue to make.
