Dixons to open two new free schools in Manchester

Posted 11th September 2023

Dixons Academies Trust will open two new free schools in Manchester as part of the Department for Education’s new wave of 15 free schools in areas across the UK with the lowest educational outcomes.

Dixons Victoria Academy, a secondary school which will be based in the north-east of the city centre, and Dixons Wythenshawe Sixth Form, based in an area which currently has no local academic post-16 option, will be created to provide more school places in regions with the greatest needs. The schools are expected to open in three or four years’ time.

With this expansion, our trust will have four schools in Manchester alongside Dixons Brooklands Academy, a turnaround sponsored academy which joined our trust in 2022, and Dixons Newall Green, a new free school which opened this year.

Luke Sparkes, Chief Executive, Dixons Academies Trust said:

“As a trust, opening free schools in areas of growing demand and developing them to be transformative institutions where students thrive, has been a key strength of ours. All our free schools have been immensely successful and a source of inspiration to other schools and leaders across our sector. We are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to open two more schools in Manchester.”

We look forward to beginning the work to develop these new academies and give more students across the north west access to a high-quality education.
