Dixons Newall Green opens to students this week

Posted 4th September 2023

This week, Dixons Newall Green, our new free school in Manchester, is opening its doors to its first cohort of Year 7 students. The school, based in Wythenshawe, is our second school in the area alongside Dixons Brooklands Academy which joined our trust last year.

Dixons Newall Green’s mission is to ensure that all students succeed at university, or a real alternative, and live fulfilling lives, which aligns to our trust’s mission of challenging educational and social disadvantage in the North - ensuring that all students, regardless of background have access to a high-quality education that will help them thrive.

The school is run by Principal Stephen Garvey, who held several leadership roles before joining Dixons Academies Trust in 2021. At Dixons, he has supported our trust’s expansion into the North West and has been integral in developing and embedding culture, practices, and routines across schools in Liverpool and Manchester. He will be supported by Vice Principals Kate Henney and Sophie Galloway, both of whom have worked for Dixons for a number of years and have been instrumental in shaping our offer in the North West.

Stephen said:

“We are delighted to open our school with our first cohort of Year 7s this year. We know that education is the key to social progress and we are passionate about removing barriers for our students to ensure that they have all the opportunities needed to succeed. As such, we will put everything in place to support every single student from their first day with us: cultures, routines, our mission and values will be a priority for us from the start.”

As a new school, Dixons Newall Green is opening with around 140 Year 7 students on its roll this year. Numbers will increase with each yearly intake until the school has a full cohort of Year 7 – Year 11 students by 2027.

For those interested in finding out more about admissions next year, the school is hosting an open evening on Tuesday 3 October, 4:30pm – 6:30pm. More information can be found at dixonsng.com.
