Dixons Brooklands Academy and Dixons Newall Green Academy lead change through Greater Manchester Citizens partnership
Posted 20th November 2025
Dixons Brooklands Academy and Dixons Newall Green Academy have been an important part of the growth of Greater Manchester Citizens.
As part of our trust-wide partnership with Citizens UK, Greater Manchester Citizens brings together schools, mosques, churches, universities and community centres to build power and make meaningful change across the city region through community organising.
Both academies have taken part in a Greater Manchester-wide listening campaign to understand the issues that matter most to our communities. From these conversations, we have worked with our partners to shape campaigns focused on youth mental health, discrimination, and transport.
Following our innovative youth assembly in July, students from Dixons Brooklands Academy and Dixons Newall Green Academy have met with the ICB and with the Deputy Mayor, Kate Green, to present their experiences and propose solutions. Their leadership has contributed to the development of the TravelSafe programme, improvements to CAMHS, and new measures aimed at tackling hate and division.
This work reflects our trust’s mission to challenge educational and social disadvantage in the North by empowering students and communities to have a voice through our Citizens groups.
