Consultation on admissions arrangements
Posted 7th November 2025
Dixons Allerton Academy is consulting on the planned closure of its Post-16 (sixth form) provision, which would also lead to a change in the academy’s admissions arrangements.
Reasons for the proposed closure
When Dixons Sixth Form Academy and Bradford New College opened in 2019, our trust initially decided to keep sixth form provision at Dixons Allerton Academy. However, since that time:
- Numbers in the sixth form at Dixons Allerton Academy have steadily declined and are no longer viable.
- The majority of sixth form students currently take applied courses, where retention rates and outcomes have been below the city average for the past five years.
- All courses offered at Dixons Allerton Academy are available elsewhere in the city.
Given these factors, the trust has decided to phase out sixth form provision at Dixons Allerton Academy and focus on strengthening the 11–16 phase of the school.
Planned timeline
The closure will take effect from September 2026. No new students will be admitted to the sixth form from that point, and existing students will complete their courses by July 2027, after which the sixth form will close.
Impact and considerations
Currently, the sixth form is a net financial liability for the academy. Its closure will allow more resources to be directed toward the primary and secondary phases, supporting improved outcomes for students across the school.
Consultation period
The consultation will run from Monday 10 November 2025 to Sunday 21 December 2025.
