Dixons Academies Trust is thrilled to announce that Bradford Citizens have been awarded The Tim Brighouse Community Engagement Initiative of the Year award as part of the recent Tes Schools awards 2024. This prestigious recognition celebrates their exceptional commitment to securing positive changes for the community of Bradford and beyond. The Tes Schools awards are a fantastic way to celebrate individuals' and schools' achievements with colleagues and the wider education community; gaining national recognition for hard work and successes.
Bradford Citizens, an alliance of Citizens UK, have demonstrated outstanding dedication to community engagement, making a significant impact through various initiatives. Their efforts have not only fostered stronger community ties but have also led to meaningful and sustainable changes, benefiting residents across Bradford.
Bradford Citizens is an alliance of school trusts and supporting partners, using Citizens UK’s community organising methodology to give young people in the city a voice. The students who participate talk to their peers to find out what they would like to see change in the city, and run campaigns based on the issues they have prioritised. In their last listening campaign, Bradford Citizens spoke to over 10,000 young people in the city, and decided to focus on issues of mental health, cost of living, and anti-racism. Their work has led to important changes in how organisations in the city work together to better support young people’s mental health.
The Tim Brighouse Community Engagement Initiative of the Year award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. Their collaborative approach and innovative strategies have set a benchmark for community engagement initiatives.
