Employee Referral Scheme

The programme does not apply to casual vacancies or those with a zero-hour contract.

Bonus payments count as earnings and are therefore subject to deduction of tax, national insurance and pension contributions.

The following people are exempt from the scheme:

• the principal and senior leadership team members at the academy where the vacancy is situated
• any member of our trust HR team
• any of our school and college trust leaders
• functional leads where the vacancy is within their team
• recruiting manager for the role if not listed above

No. Passing on a referral to a colleague when a financial incentive is involved would risk harming the integrity of the selection process.

Yes. Candidates who may not be considered for referrals include the following:

• someone currently employed by our trust on any type of contract
• someone who has previously been employed by our trust
• someone who is currently working at or has previously worked at our trust on a supply basis or via an agency

There may also be other circumstances where a candidate would not count as an employee referral.

It is recommended that you call the prospective candidate to find out if they are interested in the role and encourage them to apply. You should remind them to specify your name on the referral section of the application form.

If a successful candidate commences in their new role, the employee is seen to have completed the introduction, the referee would therefore receive the first payment of £100.

We offer a fixed payment of £100 for successful referrals to our ITT programmes and, for current employees, this is paid as a bonus payment subject to tax and NI deductions; where the individual is a current ITT student, then a one off payment will be arranged through finance, the individual will be advised that they should consider whether they need to disclose this to HMRC as income.

The referral payment is made as the referred individual successfully starts their ITT programme.

Yes. Candidates who may not be considered for referrals include the following:

• School and college trust leaders
• members of the Dixons teacher training team
• ITT lead mentors
• ITT leads
