Dixons cup update
It has been a busy month for sport with hundreds of students getting involved in competitive sports.
Dixons Cup update for April:
- Dixons City Academy hosted the Year 7 and Year 8 girls' football tournament, which had a huge nine schools in attendance. This makes it the highest attended Dixons Cup competition so far!
- Dixons Brooklands Academy made the arduous journey across the M62 to take part in the first ever competition in a central venue, between our academies. Thankfully the journey was worthwhile for them as they stormed to victory without losing a game.
- Dixons Allerton Academy secured their position at the top of the Dixons Cup leader board after winning the Year 7 cricket tournament. The competition was a fantastic introduction to cricket with some splendid cricket on show and it was great to see teams of mixed genders competing together and against one another.
- We held our first ever Dixons Academies Trust primary competition with three of our primaries hosting six other guest schools across Bradford. It was a brilliant competition with Dixons Allerton Academy following in their secondary schools footsteps by finishing first. Dixons Manningham Academy came second, and Dixons Music Primary Academy finished in third place.
- A special mention to the Year 10 Dixons Cottingley OCR sport science students who led the events on the day with a superb balance of professionalism and enthusiasm.
- The curtain drew on our rugby season, with a number of tremendous rugby events hosted at Dixons Cottingley Academy and Dixons Allerton Academy. Three competitions ran over the month for Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9. The games were played in fantastic spirit with most students having their first taste of the rugby league at a competitive level. It was wonderful to see the numbers of participants equally balanced between males and females as the game grows in popularity.
- Dixons Allerton Academy won the Year 7 tournament, Dixons Unity Academy took first place in the boys & girls Year 8 competitions and the Year 9 boys competition.
Thank you to all PE staff who continue to drive standards of sports competitions across our trust, and thank you to all those who host our competitions. It's wonderful to see an equal number of female and male participants in our competitions.
