Dixons Manningham Academy community garden | Spending time in green space or adding nature into your everyday life can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing. We want our students at Dixons Manningham Academy to have a safe welcoming green space to enjoy outside. Come and spend the afternoon working with colleagues to help prepare a space our students can take pride in. Dixons Manningham Academy library support | Budding bibliophile? Come and join us to organise, clean and maintain the library space at Dixons Manningham Primary Academy for our students, to give them a safe space where they can enjoy reading, connect with others and learn. Beech Grove Greenway children's play area clear up | Better Start Bradford work with young families to give the children in our communities the best start in life. Their 'The Better Place' project works in partnership with local people to improve outdoor spaces for families with young children. Could you spend the afternoon doing some maintenance work on a playground that our children enjoy? Join a Better Start Bradford Urban Ranger to make a difference to this community. Make space for Dixons Marchbank's community hub | Do you love cleaning, tidying and organising? Help our team organise the community hub rooms at Dixons Marchbank Primary Academy: clean the areas, prepare the boards to display children's work, sterilise toys and arrange the books. By creating a safe, clean and joyful space, you'll be making a real difference to our families. The joy of reading: the big Dixons book swap | Reading can help you relax and unwind, broaden your understanding of the world, take you to different places, challenge you to think about different issues, and most importantly bring joy to your everyday life. Books bring people together. Through sharing your thoughts on a book, you’ll find yourself learning a lot about others, broadening your perspectives and getting to know your colleagues. Come and swap a book with a colleague (don't worry you'll get it back) and share the joy of reading. |
The Al Mustafa shared partnership | The Al Mustafa Centre is one of Bradford's leading Islamic centres, providing an Islamic education for many Dixons students after school, and conducting significant charitable activities. Our visit will involve an introduction to the centre, a tour, participating in or watching Friday prayers, and talking with staff about shared interests. Please note that this activity will require travel to the Al Mustafa Centre BD8 9LN for a 1.10pm start. |
Community climb | You'll be in safe hands as you climb your way to a sense of joy and accomplishment - take on the rock climbing wall at Dixons City Academy. Complete a full body workout at your own pace, boost your mood, and work with colleagues to build relationships as you find your way to the top. |
Born in Bradford: what the data tells us | Born in Bradford is the world's largest cohort study. It looks at data from thousands of young people across Bradford. The insights it has uncovered have had far-reaching implications for research and public policy. Dixons schools participate in Born in Bradford research, and this session will share the most recent findings on the health and wellbeing of young people in the city. |
School in the community: walking tour | Our academies exist in a distinctive social context, which has a direct impact on what happens in them. We have the opportunity to form a bridge between schools and the communities that we serve but to do this, we need a strong understanding of our catchment areas. This walking tour of the areas surrounding Dixons City Academy will look at the rich breadth of diversity amongst the community, the unique historical context that shapes our present, and what works well in this area to support our families and students. Love Letter to Bradford | Award-winning playwright, screen writer and actor, Kamal Kaan, studied A Levels at Dixons City Academy, and Architecture at the University of Cambridge before completing an MA in TV Film Writing. He has written for BBC radio programmes, amongst other projects, and still works and lives in Bradford. Kamal will share reflections on growing up, studying and living as a Bengali Bradfordian and how his community has influenced his work. Kamal's conversation 'A Love Letter to Bradford' will be live streamed throughout our academies for those who would like to hear his story. |
Happy Healthy You | Meet the founder of award winning Happy Healthy You, and hear about how she has inspired families to take control of their own personal well-being and make it an enduring habit, by providing them with tools and techniques. This session will also focus on your own wellbeing - focusing on desk yoga and techniques you can use yourself to be joyful in the workplace and beyond. Inspiring joy and confidence in learning: a parent-school partnership approach | Caroline Hudson is an Oracy, English and Maths specialist with over 30 years' experience as a primary school teacher and senior leader. Join her to hear about a simple but effective approach to working with parents that focuses on their unique needs. Caroline is an expert at building strong, genuine relationships that help families build their confidence and skills so that they can experience the joy of learning. Explore the reasons that parents and caregivers find it challenging to support their child's learning and the interventions that can be put in place for parents to empower them to become active partners in both their own and their child's development - fostering trust, ambition, stronger family connections and joyful learning. De-stress express: games to get you moving | Get up, away from your desk and do something a little different. With a choice of badminton, bench-ball and table tennis, spend the afternoon getting the endorphins flowing and taking on your colleagues. You'll boost your mood and be ready for a weekend rest. |
