“Flexible working for us isn't just about time, it's about agency. Our team, with their flexible working day, can do whatever they wish.” Robyn Ellis, school and college trust leader.
Robyn recently featured on an ‘Inside Your Ed’ podcast discussing flexible working in education – including what prompted our move towards a nine-day fortnight for teachers and how we’re innovating for associate staff too.
Why does this matter?
- In 2023, 40,000 teachers resigned from state schools – nearly 9% of the workforce – the highest number since records began in 2011.
- Over 3 million sick days were taken last year alone – a 50% increase since before the pandemic.
- Schools remain the only public service that sees children and families every day.
It is important that we look after our staff, not just for their wellbeing, but for the sake of the communities we serve. At Dixons, flexible working is a key part of our mission to build a culture where everyone can belong – and we know it has a profound impact on equality, diversity, and inclusion.
