Artificial intelligence: elevating education
Posted 25th October 2024
At Dixons, we recognise artificial intelligence’s (AI) tremendous potential in improving educational outcomes and what this could mean for our sector. We have a clear vision for using AI, we want to adopt it to maximise our impact in tackling educational and social disadvantage, by empowering every student with equal opportunities, enhanced by AI.
We know we can't replace the human touch of teachers, but by using AI we can empower teachers to maximise their impact. Using AI will enable teachers to focus more on teaching rather than low value tasks.
Our AI cross cutting team have been exploring the fascinating developments within AI, and diving into large language models, such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Google's Gemini and learn how they complement human expertise in the classroom. We have also explored how large language models can support the completion of various tasks across all areas and in many schools across our trust.
We hope to use AI to assist with designing educational activities for students, transcribing meetings and providing accurate translations to suit diverse audiences. The integration of AI in education holds the promise of making learning more accessible, inclusive, and tailored to each learner’s unique needs.
We have of course also explored the ethical considerations, the challenges AI brings, and the potential risks when using AI within education, and how using ethically developed AI tools is essential for safe use within our schools.
